TWO young athletes are aspiring to greater things after good results in a national competition.
Sprinter Ruth Hill overcame a serious injury to win a bronze medal in the 4x100m relay.
Fellow Northallerton College student Douglas Roberts proved he was a top ten contender in the country at 3,000m.
Both students competed for honours in the English Schools Championships at the Alexander Stadium, in Birmingham.
Ruth, 15, of Northallerton, broke her foot and has been out of action most of the year. But she hit form at the right time, helping her team qualify for the final as fastest losers.
In the final, Ruth took the baton for the opening sprint and the team were in front until the last leg, where they were narrowly beaten into third place.
She said: "I started running at primary school and was encouraged to join a club by my teacher. I would love to compete in the 2012 Olympics."
Douglas, 15, of Northallerton, came tenth in the 3,000m race from a 20-strong field.
He is also a keen cyclist and has taken part in national championships. He also represents the country on the national frisbee team and his aim is to compete at the 2012 Olympics in the triathlon.
PE teacher Anna Harvey said: "We are really proud of both students for competing at such a high level and doing so well. They are dedicated and talented athletes and I'm sure they have a bright future in sport ahead of them."
