PUPILS, parents and staff are doing their bit for the environment through an artistic endeavour.
South Otterington Primary School hosted workshops from three local artists, based on a recycling-themed topic titled Commotion in the Ocean.
Hambleton District Council’s recycling officer visited the school to kick-off the scheme with a talk.
Parents then attended the workshops with their children to create a sea creature made from all recycled products that were donated.
The local artists were invited to carry out workshops on recycling, and the creatures included a shark and jellyfish for the exhibition called Stop the Plastic Tide.
Headteacher Amanda Gledhill said: “We got the inspiration from high-profile programmes such as David Attenborough’s Blue Planet, which encourages people to look after the earth.
“The workshops ran alongside teaching as the pupils have covered recycling in class and have learnt what they can do to help.
“Initiatives like this are important for the school. They raise awareness of important issues and encourage pupils to do something about it.”
