FRESH from a recent appearance on national television, a Christian folk rock group will be performing at Darlington’s oldest church later this month.
The Paul Mirfin Band recently appeared on the popular BBC One Sunday afternoon show, Songs of Praise, where they played a set to commuters on a train station platform.
Based in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, the Paul Mirfin Band is gathering momentum as one of the North’s most talented producers of Christian folk rock.
Paul began writing songs about God’s influence on his life two years ago. Since then, the band has released an EP, Bring the Rain, in 2016, followed by two singles.
The Reverend Mark East, priest-in-charge at the Grade I-listed church built in 1125 AD, said: “Like many churches, we have found it a challenge to attract older teenagers and people in their 20s.
“We’re looking to develop a regular series of events, which we’re calling #awe+wonder, which will be mainly aimed at the 16 to 30 age group.
“As a springboard event, we’re delighted to have booked the Paul Mirfin Band and we’re looking forward to welcoming them to St Andrew’s later this month.”
The Paul Mirfin Band will stage a performance at St Andrew’s Church, in Haughton-le-Skerne, at 7pm on Saturday, March 24.
Tickets for the performance cost £3 each and are available at the door or by calling the St Andrew’s Church office on 01325-468142.
