A COUNCIL has launched a recycling scheme to give residents the chance to be greener with rubbish.
Chester-le-Street District Cou-ncil, together with Tetra Pak and Alliance for Beverage Cartons and the Environment, unveiled the scheme yesterday.
Beverage carton manufacturers produce about 55,000 tonnes of paper-based cartons for milk, juice, sauces and other drinks in the UK each year.
The council is working with the carton industry to establish carton collection points at recycling centres at the town's Tesco car park, Foundry Lane car park and the car park at Garden Farm shops.
Councillor Simon Westrip, portfolio holder for neighbourhood services, said: "Chester-le-Street residents appreciate the importance of recycling and have always responded well to the different recycling schemes we've implemented.
"I'm sure they will continue to support us in achieving the required targets."
