A NAVY reservist has sailed off with the best award from his unit on HMS Callicope.
Lieutenant Paul Ladislaus has been recognised as the best officer for his dedication to the success of the Gateshead-based Royal Navy Reserve (RNR) unit.
The 28-year-old from Yarm was commended for organising and leading expeditions that included British Columbia, Canada.
He played a key role in administration and arranging diplomatic clearances, as well as ensuring the team arrived and returned safely.
He said: "It's a real honour to be recognised and singled out by my peers for this award.
Originally from Gibraltar but now living in Yarm, Lt Ladislaus is a chartered chemical engineer for Huntsman Pigments at Greatham Works, in Teesside. He joined the reserve in 2001.
His commanding officer at HMS Calliope, Commander Chris Scribbins, said: "Paul has continued to go from strength to strength since his promotion to Lieutenant.
"As divisional officer to a number of ratings under his command, his method of leadership and organisation is such that his is the role model that can be held up as a best practice way to run an RNR division."
