PEOPLE are being offered the chance to learn bushcraft survival skills with a new course in a County Durham forest.

Bushcraft instructor, Bruce Ferguson, is qualified through the Institute for Outdoor Learning to teach bushcrafts to groups and has been involved in bushcrafts and teaching woodland skills for more than 30 years.

And on March 17 and 18 he will be holding a buscraft survival skills training weekend in Hamsterley Forest, near Bishop Auckland.

Attendees will learn how to build shelters from natural materials for varying conditions, a range of useful knots and a number of different tarp set ups, how to light a fire including techniques for difficult conditions and fire by friction, how to manage a fire and cook on it, as well as going on a wild food forage and sleeping in a tarp shelter.

Tickets cost £100 per person and the course is only available to adults.
