THE River Ouse has burst its banks, with water levels expected to rise further throughout the day.
The Foss Barrier was closed yesterday and warnings issued after melting snow and rainfall contributed to rising levels in the Ouse around York’s city centre.
This morning, flood warnings remain in place at riverside properties and around St George’s Field and Queen’s Staith, with another in place at Naburn Lock, to the south of the city.
The Environment Agency operated the Foss Barrier on Wednesday, saying it was expected to remain operational for a couple of days while floodgates along the river were also being closed.
