A TEENAGER was assaulted and threatened with an axe after a driver’s car was pelted with eggs.
The man found the 14-year-old boy hiding nearby and threatened him with the weapon before kneeing him in the head.
Police are now appealing for witnesses to the incident which happened in the Newburn area of Newcastle on Monday, June 12, although police have only now released details of the incident.
At around 9.45pm, police received a report that a group of boys had been throwing eggs at a passing car in Mill Vale.
A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: “They fled the area but the man is alleged to have got out of his vehicle and found one of the children hiding nearby.
“He has reportedly threatened the 14-year-old with an axe before kneeing him in the head.
“The man has then got back into his vehicle and left the area.
“The child involved only received minor injuries during the incident and did not require any hospital treatment”.
Police say enquiries are ongoing and have now released an image of a man who was in the area at the time that they want to speak to about the incident.
