A SPECIAL event taking place later this month aims to help companies who are struggling to recruit enough skilled workers.

The Tees Valley Pathways and Routeways Youth Employment Initiative programmes are holding a free Business Breakfast Event at the Riverside Stadium on Wednesday, September 20 from 8.30am to 10.30am.

The programmes are delivered by a consortium of 27 public, private and voluntary sector organisations that aim to get more than 6,000 unemployed young people aged 15-29 into education, employment, training or apprenticeships.

It is part-funded by the European Social Fund and supported under the Youth Employment Initiative.

Councillor Lewis Young, Middlesbrough Council’s executive member for economic development and infrastructure, said: “Perhaps companies have vacancies and are finding it difficult to recruit workers with appropriate skills or perhaps they are keen to take on new trainees or apprentices.

“Tees Valley Pathways and Routeways programmes can help by providing them with access to a pool of skilled, motivated and ready-for-work young people.

“The initiative recognises that such a supply of talent is vital to the economic prosperity of the Tees Valley economy as we move forward – both in terms of meeting the needs of existing companies and attracting new investment to the area.”

The scheme a chance for companies and apprenticeship providers to find out how the £20 million programme can help them resolve their recruitment issues.
