A STRETCH of road which is fast becoming an accident blackspot was closed last night after a two-car crash.

The A167 between Croft-on-Tees and Darlington was shut off by police after they were called just after 6.30pm to reports of the collision on Croft Road, just outside Hurworth.

The vehicles involved were a white Audi Q3 and a red Mazda MX-5.

Paramedics were also called out and four people were taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries.

The road was closed until about 8.10pm to allow for recovery of the vehicles.

Residents living on that stretch of the A167 have warned of excessive speeds causing numerous accidents there.

On Friday a 24-year-old man, Jeremy Cheung, was sentenced to 14 months in prison for causing death by driving without due care and attention after his vehicle, which was on the wrong side of the road, struck two others on the same stretch of the A167, killing 59-year-old mother-of-two Christine Watson.
