A MAN had to be cut free from a vehicle following a crash at a crossroads in the Crook area.

County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service received a call about the two-car crash at 1.45pm today (Monday).

Firefighters attended the scene at the Green Lane crossroads outside of North Bitchburn, on the road towards Toronto, near Bishop Auckland, where they used specialist equipment to free a man from a car.

He was taken by road ambulance to James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough.

Another man took himself to University Hospital of North Durham.

An appliance from Crook and an appliance and specialist rescue unit from Bishop Auckland attended.

Crews left the crash site at 3pm.
