PEOPLE in Bishop Auckland are being urged to support a green-fingered community event being held later this month.

Bishop Auckland Town Council Horticultural and Produce Show will take place in the Town Hall on Saturday, September 23.

It will be the third time the event has taken place but organisers say that whilst entry numbers are high, there are few visitors on the day to see all the hard work the growers have put it.

Committee member Chris Davidson said: “Bishop Auckland are national champions when it comes to dahlias. The best in the country are here and we really want people to come and see them.”

Town councillor Leandra Chappell added: “You can’t say there is nothing going on in Bishop Auckland if you don’t come and support what is happening.

“There is so much hard work that goes into the entries, it can be sole destroying if nobody turns up.

Admission is free and the show runs from noon until 3pm. Afterwards there is a auction of produce to raise money for the mayor of Bishop Auckland, councillor Adam Zair’s chosen charity the Great North Air Ambulance.
