A TEENAGER has organised a charity event to help the grieving family of an eight-year-old who died this week.

Branksome schoolboy Mark Hammond passed away on Tuesday following a brave battle with cancer.

Britain’s Got Talent stars Grace and Ali will join a host of entertainers at a charity night held in his honour on Friday, September 1.

The event was organised prior to Mark’s death as part of a fundraising drive that has so far raised more than £26,000 to fund treatment and help the little boy’s family.

Half of the proceeds from the night will be given to the Hammond family to help them with funeral costs, with the other half going to help Hartlepool boy Alfie Smith, who has cerebral palsy.

It will take place at Darlington’s Engineers Club from 6pm and was organised by 16-year-old Ryan Reed.

He said: “Mark was such a strong little fighter, he may be gone but he will never ever be forgotten.

“When I heard the news I was totally heartbroken, words can’t describe how upset I was.”

Admission to the event is £2 for adults, £1 for children and £5 for a family ticket.
