A SEVEN-year-old girl needed hospital treatment after being showered with glass when teenagers threw a brick at a bus.

The bus window shattered, leaving the girl with minor head injuries and she was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Police described the attack as a “really dangerous stunt” and said it was lucky no-one was more seriously injured.

They now want to speak to a group of teenagers who were in the area near Ravensworth Golf Club in Gateshead at the time.

The incident happened on Wednesday, August 18 at around 2.40pm as the bus was travelling on Easedale Gardens.

Investigating officer, PC Craig Brown said: "This was a really dangerous stunt and in many ways we are lucky that just one person received minor injuries.

"On another day these teenagers could have caused a collision and we could have been talking about a far more serious incident with far more serious injuries.

"We are continuing to carry out enquiries into this incident and need the public's help to identify these teenagers so we can speak to them about their actions.

"I would also ask parents to speak to their children and warn them of the dangers of this type of behaviour and the impact it can have on other members of the public."

Police say enquiries have been taking place over the past week to identify those involved and now they are appealing for help from the public.

They want to speak to anyone who may have seen the teenagers, aged between 13 and 15 and all wearing sports gear, in the area of the golf club on Wednesday afternoon.
