THE Incredibles, Harry Potter and Darth Vader were just some of the characters that could be seen parading through a village during a colourful carnival.

Dozens of fun-goers turned out for the return of Staindrop Carnival to enjoy the warm weather and the parade.

This year’s event included 30 classical cars, a live singer, market stalls and a best dressed house competition to celebrate the Queen’s Sapphire Jubilee.

Number eight Front Street took first place for their creation of the King and Queen on the balcony, The Wheatsheaf Inn won second and Chip-in-Dale third.

Tony Smith, Staindrop Carnival events manager, said: “I’ve been on the committee for about four years and it was the biggest and best carnival I’ve seen.

“At a time when some carnivals seem to be dying off, Staindrop Carnival is going from strength to strength.

“The carnival team did a sterling job organising everything, they really did.

“We had lots of positive feedback, and it was lovely to see people relaxing in the sun, sat on the grass and enjoying themselves.

“We had fantastic weather and it was just a really good fun day. We’re already thinking about ideas for next year’s theme.”
