A COLLEGE’S annual summer show is showcasing the success of hundreds of talented students.

Cleveland College of Art and Design’s summer show, which ends tomorrow (Wednesday, June 21) highlights the creativity of more than 300 students.

The Make Your Mark exhibition displayed works from a range of courses, including fashion, photography, fine art and 3D design.

Many of the students involved are now preparing to take their talents forward, having been offered work placements, apprenticeships and places at prestigious higher education institutions.

Art and design student Helena Greening, from Osmotherley, will go on to study at Oxford University’s Ruskin School of Art after studying on a foundation degree course at CCAD.

The 18-year-old said: “Ever since I’ve been small, I’ve loved art but I didn’t think it was possible for it to be my career.

“CCAD definitely gave me a platform to completely focus on my art – I love it, it’s changed the way I look at the whole foundations of the subject and has given me a massive step up.

“I couldn’t have got in Oxford without my foundation and my next step is a continuation of my life through what I love – art.”

James Wilkinson, 18, from Coulby Newham, received the Principal’s Award after conquering personal challenges to gain his BTEC Extended Diploma.

The student, who has autism, will now go onto study interior design at the University of Lincoln.

His lecturer, Martyn Featherstone, said: “James’ thirst for knowledge has grown along with his confidence, moving steadily forward to take an active role in sessions. His work is outstanding.”

Pat Chapman, Head of Employability and External Relations, said: “It has been an exceptionally strong year and I hope the students celebrate their achievements.

“It is always inspiring to see the creativity and talent that our students produce.”

The final opportunity to view the show at the college's campus on Green Lane, Middlesbrough will be between 10am and noon on Wednesday.
