A SEASONED bingo player is celebrating after scooping more than £20,000.

The lucky 66-year-old, of Spennymoor, County Durham, is a regular at Apollo Bingo Club, in Durham, and was playing on the National Live on June 11 when her numbers came in.

She said: “I was looking at my board and the number 37 and when the bingo caller said 37 I just instinctively pressed the button. I didn’t know how much I was playing for. There was a round of applause and a lot of people came up and congratulated me.

“I still had butterflies two days later, it’s a lot of money to win. I’ve had wins before but not this big! At the end of the night my two friends came outside to the car to tell my husband but he thought they were having him on.

“You put the money in and hope for the best. I never expected it but when it happened it was fantastic.”

The woman, who won £20,500.82 in total, now plans to spend the money on holidays for her whole family including husband, two children and five grandchildren.

A party is being planned to celebrate where the cheque will be presented on June 25.

Durham’s lucky streak has continued into 2017 with the club now taking top spot across the company with four National Live wins this year worth more than £52,000.

General manager, Michael Garthwaite, said: “Our congratulations and well wishes go to the winner and we are looking forward to the celebrations.”
