OVER £7 million has been invested by a hospital trust to make it more eco friendly and efficient to save over £15.6m over the next 25 years.

Harrogate District Hospital has put in 8,500 new LED lights, installed new boilers, updated the electrics and improved the efficiency of their systems including using waste heat to help power under floor heating in the hospitals car park to avoid winter gritting.

They say it should save around £625,000 a year which can be spent on direct patient care. more energy efficient means that an estimated £625,000 per year for the next 25 years (a total of £15,625,000) can instead be spent on direct patient care.

Deputy Director of Estates Phil Sturdy said: “There is a clear patient benefit here in terms of the broader resilience of the site, as well as what people may notice while in hospital, such as more natural feel to the lighting.

“The quality of the work and the effort that has been put in by everyone has given the Trust a project to be proud of."
