SUNDERLAND football club’s charity has announced the return of one of their most popular fundraising events which gives people the change to ride a zip line from the top of the Stadium of Light.

The Foundation of Light’s Zip Wear thrill-ride returns on Sunday July 16, where brave zippers will soar 900ft from the roof of the stadium to Liebherr Sunderland Works on the opposite bank of the River Wear, at a speed of 25mph.

Registration to take part in the event is just £20 and participants are required to raise at least £100 in sponsorship. Alternatively, places can be bought outright making it an ideal gift for adrenaline junkies or SAFC supporters.

Foundation of Light events manager Jemma Garrett, said: “Due to popular demand we are delighted to announce the return of Zip Wear.

“Previous slides have sold out very quickly with hundreds of people taking on the challenge – some in fancy dress – and raise vital funds for the Foundation.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to take on a challenge featuring one of the region’s most iconic landmarks, the Stadium of Light, and I must thank Sunderland AFC for their support which makes this event possible.”

Participants must be at least 12 years old (height and weight restrictions apply) and all under 16s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian on the day.
