A DRIVER is seriously ill in hospital after his car left the road and hit a telegraph pole and bridge in the early hours of this morning.
The 20-year-old driver lost control on a left hand bend and hit the bridge parapet at Hawthorn, near Seaham in County Durham.
The accident happened shortly before 1.15am on Sunderland Road as the Vauxhall Astra was travelling south towards Easington.
No other cars were involved.
The car driver was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary, in Newcastle, with what police describe as serious injuries.
