FAMILY members have flown in to join wishing their grandmother a happy birthday as she reached the milestone age of 100.

Phyllis Morris, of Newton Aycliffe, has this week been celebrating the momentous occasion with parties in the North-East and her former home of Warwickshire.

Turning 100 on Tuesday (June 13), Mrs Morris attributed her long life to “trying to behave”.

Her daughter Josephine Davison, 70, said: “We’re just blessed and thankful that she’s still here.”

Born on June 13, 1917, Mrs Morris is originally from Atherstone where she was brought up.

She worked in the hatting and shoe industries all her life and was deployed to a munitions factory during the war.

On Armistice Day in 1940 Mrs Morris married her late husband Harry who was in The Irish Fusiliers.

The pair had one daughter together, Josephine, who has three sons, Neil, who now lives in New Zealand, Paul, who now lives in Indianapolis, USA, and Leigh. She has four great-grandchidlren.
