THE uncle of a young cancer survivor is taking on the Great North Run to raise funds for the charity that supported him.
Six-year-old Max Pedelty, from Willington, County Durham, was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia a week before his first birthday in 2011. The youngster, who has Down’s syndrome, has been clear of cancer for five years but still suffers with low immunity and mobility problems.
The charity Clic Sargent has been a lifeline to the Pedelty family over the years and, in September, Max’s uncle, Paul Ayre, hopes to give something back by taking part in the Great North Run.
Mandy Pedelty, Max’s mother, said: “Max adores his uncle Paul and Paul adores Max.
“I’m so proud of Paul raising money for a charity that’s obviously very close to our hearts. It will help Clic Sargent carry on their amazing work with childhood cancer families.”
