ARTISTS can hang and sell their masterpieces in a gallery which is home to a permanent exhibition of work by one of the region’s most famous painters.

In the last two years more than 6,000 people have visited The Bob Abley Art Gallery, at Spennymoor Town Hall, Spennymoor, County Durham.

The gallery holds the Norman Cornish permanent exhibition, his original studio and sells original work, prints and postcards by the late pitman painter.

There is also space for around 20 local and regional artists to exhibit and sell their work at the venue, on High Street.

Organisers regularly change its offer and in a bid to keep it fresh and varied have invited new and established artists to call them on 01388-815276 if they are interested in featuring at the gallery.

The gallery is open Monday to Friday, noon to 4pm, and Saturday, 10am to 2pm, and admission is free.

Mr Cornish spent 33 years as a coal miner and became a celebrated artist who captured the atmosphere underground, family life and his home town on canvas.
