A BOWLING club is hoping to roll its way to success after a council grant secured new equipment.

St Cuthbert’s Short Mat Bowling Club in Crayke, near Easingwold, used the grant from Hambleton District Council’s ‘Making a Difference Awards’ to buy two new indoor bowling mats and some room dividers.

The club has an active playing membership of twenty adults aged between 60 and 90 who play in four leagues plus social bowling for the older members.

Fixtures secretary Pete Davies is delighted with the new equipment.

He said: “We have been using second hand and deteriorating old mats to play on.

“The new mats will enable us to retain our place in the four leagues and expand our social bowling, whilst the room dividers will enable more activities to be catered for in the hall.”

Ward member, Councillor Geoff Ellis who supported the project, added, “It is great to be able to help villages like Crayke with projects that they otherwise would not be able to afford themselves."

The Club is actively seeking experienced bowlers to join its league programme and looking for new bowlers to join its social bowling club.

Free coaching will be available at the Friday social bowling sessions which start in September and run until March. For more information contact Pete Davies on 01347824821, or email pete.davies48@tiscali.co.uk.
