MEMBERS of a cheerleading squad had plenty to cheer about when they came back from a championship with six trophies.
Consett-based Derwent Valley Allstars impressed judges at the British Cheerleading Association’s Super Classic 2017 competition held in front of thousands of spectators at Newcastle’s Metro Radio Arena.
As well as taking top honours in the Senior Stunt Group Level 1/2 category, Derwent Valley Allstars also left with three second place trophies and two third place trophies.
The annual event is one of the country’s most prestigious cheerleading competitions and attracted more than 2,500 athletes from around Europe.
British Cheerleading director, Travis Prior, said: “The standard of cheerleading in the UK is improving year upon year and I am continually impressed with the routines.
“For Derwent Valley Allstars to walk away with six trophies in such a tough competition is testament to how hard they have been training this season.”
