POLICE investigating a spate of thefts from vehicles have recovered thousands of pounds worth of property believed to have been stolen.
The items, including power tools, a bike and a mobile phone, found this week are currently in the process of being identified in order to return them to their owners.
Officers believe the haul is related to a number of thefts from vans and vehicles which have taken place since February. More than a dozen vehicles parked outside homes have been targeted overnight across Newton Aycliffe.
Inspector Sarah Honeyman issued a warning to van owners in April to remain vigilant.
She is now appealing to anybody who may have had items stolen during that period to come forward.
Anyone who may have had property stolen is asked to call Bishop Auckland CID on non-emergency 101 or 01325-742311.
Images of the recovered property can be seen here.
Insp Honeyman said a man from outside the area had been arrested in connection with thefts from vehicles.
He has been charged and released on bail.
