A FUNDRAISING project which saw Durham Cathedral recreated in Lego has been shortlisted for a national award

The project, which raised more than £300,000 for the cathedral’s Open Treasure exhibition, is on the shortlist for the most innovative fundraising campaign at the National Fundraising Awards later this month.

It was also named as best charity event of the year at the Amazing Durham Awards and this week was given the Durham Business Group marketing award.

As well as getting people to sponsor bricks for the model cathedral, a series of five films was created to promote the project, which were watched more than 50,000 times in five weeks.

Ruth Robson, head of marketing and events at Durham Cathedral, said: “We have worked hard to promote Durham Cathedral in Lego over the last three years and this award stands testament to the efforts of staff and volunteers who have constantly found new and inspiring ways to engage visitors with this innovative fundraising appeal.”
