A PUB'S onion show has had a surge in the number of entries, with more than 20 people taking part!
The 37th Onion Show, at the Ship Inn, Richmond, on September 3, was judged by Trevor Hill. He said: βIt was good to see there are now a lot more than just a couple of people that are capable of winning the show with good onions being shown right down the tables.β
Having been a member of the club for over 25 years, and previously attaining numerous places in the top five, it was the first time Rob Sanderson achieved first place, showing a set of 21 inch onions.
Second place this year was previous winner Vic Wilson, and third place went to Dave Horn.
Mr Hill said: "Rob Sanderson also achieved the Most Improved Grower trophy having improved a massive eight places this year as well as winning the Best Onion in Show category. Dave Horn won the Best Set of Three category and Vic Wilson presented the Heaviest Onion weighing in at 9lb."
There were four entries this year for the Fancy Dressed Onion which was judged and the winners voted for by the pub locals. The fancy dressed onion was won by Larry Abel and his pink pig.
Any local people wishing to join the club can submit a letter requesting to join to the AGM on Sunday, October 2, at 7pm at the Ship Inn.
