MAYOR of Durham Councillor Bob Wynn has launched a leisure scheme to help people shape up for summer.
It is being run by the City of Durham's five leisure centres and is offering five-week memberships to anyone who joins from today until August 19.
The memberships are available at the centres at Abbey, next to the Arnison Centre, Coxhoe, Deerness, Meadowfield and Sherburn, and include the use of the five fitness suites.
Those taking part will also be able to use steam and sauna facilities, as well as having free entry to a range of exercise classes.
The mayor said: "I am delighted to officially launch this leisure summer promotion and think it is an excellent way for people to join the centres on a short-term basis, as a way of getting fitter for summer, or to try out the centres to see if they would like to become a full-time member.
"There are some great facilities on offer, not just the fitness suites, but also a wide range of different classes at different times, so everyone should be able to find something to fit in with their lifestyle.''
The summer memberships are open to anyone over 16 for £30 or £50 for couples.
