RAIL services in the North-East were disrupted on Monday evening after a fire broke out on a train.
The incident happened between Darlington and Durham.
A spokesman for Network Rail said: "A fire on a train between Darlington and Durham is causing delays of up to 80 minutes to trains between Darlington and Newcastle.
"This is expected to continue until the end of service."
The fire brigade was called to the scene.
A spokesman for Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue said: "Two appliances from Newton Aycliffe attended a train on fire at Brafferton Bridge.
"This was a fire underneath a three carriage train which was extinguished before arrival.
"Trains were stopped and overhead lines were isolated while crews inspected the engine compartment with a thermal image camera."
