TWELVE Durham University students have raised more than £1,000 (ONE THOUSAND) for charity by running a 24-hour relay of the city's Palace Green.
The students, from the athletics and cross country club, ran 254 miles - the equivalent of Durham to London - on the 325-metre circuit, in front of Durham Cathedral.
Three teams of four athletes rotated, with each running for an hour, before taking two hours off.
The event, dubbed the Palace Green 24, raised more than £1,000 (ONE THOUSAND) for sports charities in Zambia and Sri Lanka through sponsorship and bucket collections.
Andrew Lawrence, the President of the athletics and cross country club, who was one of the runners taking part, said: "Everyone put 100 per cent into the run throughout. I was absolutely exhausted, but everyone had a good attitude, were willing to help out and made the event a big success."
The fastest lap was recorded by Ben Ross, who ran the circuit in 29.32 seconds. Ed Knudsen (CORR) ran the furthest distance - 173 laps, or 22.9 miles.
The event was sponsored by Northumbrian Water, Prontaprint Durham and Varsity Durham.
