TAEKWONDO Clubfs run at Oakley Cross Sports Hall at Oakley Cross Primary School and also Woodham Burn Primary School in Aycliffe, opened in January and the students passed their first grading on May 6, all achieving yellow belt status.
A large number of students from Woodham Burn then went on to attend a The Baek Ho ITA competition in Barnard Castle, where they came back with a heap of trophies.
The competition took place in Barnard Castle at the Teesdale Sports Centre on Sunday, May 13.
Their were over 100 participants who took part from all over the country. Jonathan Saunders from Staindrop took a team of over 30 students from his clubs at Oakley Cross, in West Auckland and Woodham Burn in Aycliffe.
The clubs were a great mix of students, who came from Staindrop, Winston, Barnard Castle, West Auckland, Gainford and Aycliffe. The ages were equally as varied with children as young as six years old and others who were.
The clubs had three mothers all took part in the competition along side their children and all went home with trophies. Over 50 per-cent of their members currently train together with parents or siblings which is fantastic.
The day was an absolute knock out and the success was down to the hard work and determination of all the students, who were a credit to the club. The team came home with a staggering 47 trophies, 18 of which were golds.
