FAMILIES turned their hands to sculpture yesterday - using recycled cans.
The artistic opportunity came at the launch of Recycle Now Week, which was held in the Wheatley Hill Community Centre in the former mining village.
It was organised to coincide with the launch of the national recyling campaign, which begins today, and aims to encouraging more people to protect the environment by recycling more household waste. Visitors to the centre were able to find out about recycling and the re-use of everyday items.
They also had a chance to take part in a number of activities, including multi-sport sessions, making floral baskets with surplus plants and prize quizzes.
