A TOWN boxing club is looking to secure its third national title of the season when one of its senior boxers competes tonight.
Bob Ajisafe will fly the flag for Spennymoor Boxing Academy, in County Durham, in the national final for boxers with less than 20 fights.
The showdown with Luton Shamrock boxer Marco Stephenson will take place at HMS Nelson barracks, in Portsmouth.
Mr Ajisafe joined the club about two years ago and last year won the under-ten bout final of the same competition.
A repeat victory for the 22-year-old doorman, from Darlington, will see the club end the season on a high.
Boxers Jack Coglin and Ben Jackson have won the under 32kg and under 46 kg categories of the Golden Gloves Championships.
Director of coaching Robert Ellis said he was proud of all members' achievements, including those who narrowly missed out on titles - Chad Ellis, Stuart McCrone and Stuey Hall.
He said: "The club is going from strength to strength and, hopefully, next year we will move into much-needed bigger premises.
"We help keep youngsters off street corners and turn them into champions instead of trouble makers."
To celebrate the season, the club will hold its annual presentation in a marquee in the grounds of Whitworth Hall, Spennymoor, next Friday. Mr Ellis hopes past and present boxers, supporters and sponsors will attend.
