A HOUSE remained sealed off last night after police swooped on a suspected drugs den in a quiet residential street.

Officers targeted the house in Kader Farm Road, Acklam, near Middlesbrough, on Wednesday.

It is believed they unearthed a cannabis farm at the house.

The property last night remained under police surveillance, while neighbours spoke of their shock.

One neighbour said: "There were a lot of people going in and out all the time. You don't know really what they are up to.

"It is really quiet. Nothing much really happens down here. Everybody is quite shocked."

Over the past few weeks, Cleveland Police have conduced a number of raids across Teesside.

Last week, officers recovered an estimated 10,000 cannabis plants, with a street value of between £250,000 and £500,000, after raiding a supposedly empty building in Middlesbrough - the former headquarters of the town's probation service.

Police said the raid revealed a "highly effective, industrial scale" cannabis farm.

The 20 rooms of the seemingly derelict building each held about 500 plants, from seedlings to mature plants.

Three men were arrested and charged with producing a class C drug.

Following this initial swoop, a further ten addresses across Middlesbrough were raided, and a total of 11 people were arrested.

The streets where the raids took place were Douglas Street, Angle Street, Marton Road, Parliament Road, Waterloo Road, Fountains Drive, Westbourne Grove and Cayton Drive.
