DAMAGED medieval walls at a popular tourist spot are being rebuilt due to £130,000 of European funding.
Over the centuries the 876-year-old walls of Fountains Abbey abutting the River Skell have taken a battering.
The surging river has ripped out masonry in the abbey's south west walls making some collapse.
The abbey is run by The National Trust and English Heritage who worked together to gain funding.
In total they got 370,000 from the European Union funded Converting Sacred Spaces programme with part to be used to repair the damaged walls.
