HUNDREDS of pupils queued to sign up for after-school activities from traditional sports to hi-tech internet treasure hunts.
More than 500 pupils at Barnard Castle School went to a summer term activities ceremony, where more than 100 curricular clubs were on offer.
Alongside usual activities of rugby, swimming and tennis, the school offered pupils the chance to try their hand at new things, including rumba dancing, sailing, horse riding and internet treasure hunting - geocaching.
Teacher Michelle Powell, supervisor of the geocaching club, said: "People all over the world bury capsules containing a number of items and then leave global positioning system co-ordination clues on websites for others to find them.
"Once you find a capsule, you can retrieve an item, but you must also leave one in its place.
"It's the first time we've run this club after having some interest from pupils last year."
Deputy headteacher Oliver Marlow said: "One of our most popular activities is the combined cadet forces army training and we've already had 140 pupils sign up."
