MORE than 100 people braved the rain to take part in a community safety fun day in Ushaw Moor yesterday.
Face painting, children's entertainers and football games were among the activities on offer at the event, which was held at the Bobby Robson Sports Centre, Deerness Community Business College.
The fire service, the police, the Crime Prevention Panel, Connexions, Age Concern Ushaw Moor, Victim Support and the County Durham Youth Engagement team also set up stalls, offering information and advice on safety issues.
The Mayor of Durham, Councillor Bob Wynn, who drew the raffle, said: "Despite the weather, it was great to see the community getting together and enjoying themselves.
"It just goes to show that, no matter whether it's raining or the sun is shining, you can't dampen community spirit.
"It was also excellent to see so many different organisations and agencies from across the city represented, and delivering extremely useful information and advice on a range of safety issues right into the heart of the community."
The day was organised by Durham City Council, and Ushaw Moor Residents Group.
