TWO councillors have lent their names to new street cleaning machines in the Wear Valley.
Olive Brown, who has just retired after three decades as a councillor, and Eddie Murphy, the first councillor chosen to serve two consecutive terms as chairman, have been immortalised in the £40,000 machines.
They have been embossed with the names Olive and Eddie.
Olive will concentrate on the district's urban areas, while Eddie will concentrate on more rural areas of the dale.
Ms Brown said: "I am hoping this machine will show people that the council is doing something to clean up the district and, hopefully, will encourage them to take more care by picking up litter and not throwing down glass bottles."
Coun Murphy, who represents Crook South, said: "I'm pleased to put my name to this vehicle, which will keep the paths of the district clean and safe."
