ORGANISERS hailed an annual bank holiday event as a success, despite the chilly weather conditions.
The 115th Richmond Meet, which began on Friday, came to an end yesterday with the traditional carnival procession through the town.
Five floats and three Routemaster buses were joined in the procession by the Richmond Pipe Band and a large number of Scouts, who are also celebrating 100 years of scouting.
The Meet originated as a cycling event 115 years ago, and cycling featured prominently in this year's calendar. On Friday and Saturday there were road races around the area, while there was grasstrack racing at Richmondshire Cricket Club yesterday.
The weekend's festivities also included a junior football tournament, live music and a barbecue.
Meet spokesman Bob White said: "The weekend has gone well, considering the weather.
"We are probably about 50 per cent down in terms of the number of people who have attended, but those who have braved the weather have had a good time."
