PEOPLE are invited to learn more about keeping safe and avoiding crime today.
Durham Community Business College, formerly Deerness Comprehensive School, at Ushaw Moor is the venue for a community safety day organised by Durham City Council, between 11am and 2pm.
The aim is to make it a day of fun for all the family, and the event will feature a football competition and games, open to all ages, children's entertainment, with Ward Allen and Roger the Dog, as well as information stalls and giveaways.
Many organisations will be present with safety advice and information.
County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Brigade will hold demonstrations to promote fire safety, and Durham Police will be attending with the city council's Community Safety Officer.
The city's team of Neighbourhood Wardens will be running an assault course for visitors, that will be on the theme of recycling rubbish.
The fun day is being organised with the support of the Ushaw Moor Residents' Group.
Mayor of Durham Bob Wynn, who took up the year-long post last week, will be at the event and will pick the winners of a prize draw.
