THE opening of a revamped park went with a bang at the weekend.
A firework display on Saturday night rounded off a day of events at Oakey Park, on the outskirts of Tanfield.
The site has had a major facelift. From being largely undeveloped, with only sports pitches on offer, play areas and climbing rocks have been installed by Derwentside Leisure Services.
The new-look park has been open for some time and has become popular with youngsters from the nearby Good Street estate.
But on Saturday, the park was officially opened with a day of specially-organised events and activities.
It featured attractions for children, including rides and inflatables, music by budding rock musicians from nearby Tanfield College of Science and Engineering, the Ellie Youth Bus and art workshops.
