NORTH Yorkshire and York Primary Care Trust (PCT) has a new director of public health.

Peter Brambleby has been appointed to the role and will take up his post on July1.

Dr Brambleby was previously director of public health in Norwich. He held an honorary senior lecturer post at Norwich Medical School and, during Norfolk's PCT reorganisation, he was seconded part-time to the Department of Health.

His clinical experience was in child health and his public health experience, spanning 20 years, has been broad. He has worked at national, regional and local levels and in topics such as needs assessment, strategic planning and health improvement.

Dr Brambleby has a long-standing interest in teaching and training and has contributed widely to conferences and publications, most recently the Oxford Handbook of Public Health Practice and the BMJ health information website.

He said: "I am delighted to have the opportunity to join the team at North Yorkshire and York PCT, the local NHS family and its local strategic partners."
