THE principal of a Spennymoor day nursery is one of only fourteen people in the country to achieve a leadership childcare qualification.
Leah Hornsby, principal of Pixley Dell Day Nursery, Spennymoor, reached level five in effective leadership and management in early years this month.
She received her certificate through Northumbria University after completing the course. It aims to give managers leadership skills to help staff, children and parents work together.
Ms Hornsby said: "I have been meeting with a tutor twice a month for the past year and I am delighted that my work has paid off.
"I have acquired a number of skills that I feel will help me to provide a high level of leadership at Pixley Dell.
"I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to do this course, which helps managers become trained and provide the best possible care for the children at their nursery."
The course involved writing a report on a government initiative and giving accounts of managerial tasks.
Pixley Dell nursery is one of the leading providers of childcare in County Durham. Contact 01388-816-299.
