THE centenary of the Scouting movement is being celebrated by thousands of youngsters.
The County Durham Association is holding a camp at Herrington Country Park, on the outskirts of Sunderland, that started on Friday night and is due to finish today.
It is one of 150 events being held across the country, and is being attended by more than 2,000 youngsters from County Durham and Tyne and Wear.
The traditional activities enjoyed by Scouts over the decades are on offer - such as ropework, navigation and cooking on a stove.
But the programme of events also reflects the movement's desire to stay up to date and appeal to the interests of 21st Century youngsters.
They have been enjoying live entertainment, including circus performers, magicians and rock bands.
There have also been competitions and sports tournaments, ranging from football to It's a Knockout.
There is an area of the site dedicated to arts and crafts - plus the traditional camp fire.
Yesterday was open to former Scouts, and the families and friends of current members.
