THE outlook could soon be rosy for the residents of a Teesside neighbourhood.
A call for help has led to residents of the Tilery estate, Stockton, being given a £1,000 award from the national telephone company O2, to create a community garden.
The money will be used to transform the surroundings of Lustrum House - the neighbourhood's community centre.
Les Collins, chairman of Swainby and Danby Road Residents' Association, said: "Local residents have for a long time wanted to smarten up Lustrum House by creating a garden and planting flowers and shrubs around the building, but were unable to fund the project.
"We might be lacking in many facilities, but community spirit isn't one of them."
The association applied for the cash with the backing and help of the Stockton Residents and Community Groups Association,.
Kathy Allison, secretary of the Swainby and Danby Residents' Association, said "This funding will enable us to transform the area around our centre into a stimulating garden.''
Managed and judged by the Conservation Foundation, the O2 It's Your Community initiative, funds projects which improve local communities.
