ROCK legend Roger Daltrey yesterday unveiled a major fund-raising concert in the North-East to raise funds for teenage cancer sufferers in the region.

The Who frontman Roger Daltrey revealed that the first big name to sign up for Bandstand 2007 will be Darlington's comedian Vic Reeves, who will compere the show at The Sage Gateshead on September 22.

And asked if The Who would be there, he said: "I'm not working this year. I'll come and do some acoustics. Pete's doing nothing. He is welcome too."

The concert, in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT), will raise funds to support young people with cancer across the North-East and to help build a unit at Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI).

The six-bed ward is expected to open late next year.

Daltrey, a patron of the trust, has been the driving force behind the TCT concerts at the Royal Albert Hall, in London, for the past seven years.

He said he became involved to help teenagers who are not provided for as an entity within the health service.

He said: "Teenage Cancer Trust units give our teenagers the moral support to help fight this terrible disease.

"We need more of them so that every teenager in the UK can have access to one."

Last year, TCT staged its first large-scale music event outside of London and the sell-out gig, at The Sage Gateshead, raised more than £50,000 for the new unit planned at the RVI.

Stars including Jools Holland, Paul Weller, Ross Noble and Johnny Vegas appeared in the show.

The 2007 line-up will also include some of the biggest names from the worlds of comedy and music.
