NATIONAL Men's Health Week is being launched in the North-East on June 11.

This is the first time that the event has been launched outside of London.

The week is organised by the Men's Health Forum, the Community Foundation and the Idle Eric Campaign.

This year, the campaign will focus on long-term health conditions and it will also highlight the awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys.

Campaigners say men are more likely to develop major long-term preventable conditions, including heart disease and diabetes.

They are also concerned that primary care, including GP and pharmacy services, is not well used by men and men do not use advice and support services as well or as effectively as women.
