AN HISTORIC week for North-East angling resulted in a colossal 221.11.0 winning a five hour match at Carlton Miniott's Woodlands Lakes.
In years gone by a catch of that magnitude would have come from a session in Ireland on the river Shannon or Erne after pre-baiting but to come during a match in England just shows how far angling has come.
A combination of heavy stocking programmes and uncharacteristic weather, call it global warming, has certainly had an effect.
And the question is now is how far can records go?
Man of the historic haul was Garbolino Elton's Gordon Poole drawn on Skylark peg 14.
Quality carp into double figures went on a feeding frenzy and amazingly it could have been a lot higher but for several specimens shedding the hook as Gordon worked with the pole at four metres with pellet.
Team Mate Graham Twohey was almost 70.0.0 adrift on a day of eight ton up weights and the top 20 weighing in over 2000.0.0.
Drawn on Partridge six in total contrast, Graham caught all his fish at distance catching up in the water with pellet at 14.5 metres to total 153.11.0. Other: K Kotchie 149.14.0; B Poole 131.12.0; G Moore 127.4.0; G Skirrey 125.6.0.
Darlington youngster Jonny Madison was the star of the Shimano Quaker Pairs Series with an unbelievable four section maximum score, winning the individual title and clinching the pairs overall with Graham Skirrey.
The fourth and final round was fished on Sessay's Maple and Poplars Lakes.
Individually Shimano Quakers Dave Harris won on the day with 64.9.0 drawn on peg 2 on Poplars Lake.
Harris worked two lines catching carp up to 8.0.0 on the pellet across to the island at 13 metres and down the near bank into the corner.
17 year old Jonny Madison ensured a memorable series by clinching second place on the day.
The Shimano Quakers angler drew peg 32 on Poplars Lake and caught carp across at 16 metres on pellet but a dramatic tactical switch in the last hour paid dividends as eight barbel on the meat were tempted for a nearside line to finish with 57.8.0.
Tickets for the Turners Tackle 2007 series are now available with a potential £800 for the winner.
