Sedgefield WPC
Sedgefield Water Polo Club hosted the Northern League Under-17s tournament at Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre against the big city clubs of Leeds, Huddersfield and Sheffield.
Once again Sedgefield's strong defence and clever counter attack game plan worked with wins over Sheffield 10-3, Leeds 12-9 and Huddersfield 9-2 to take the title. Sedgefield fielded very promising 13 year old Mathias Reichel in goal who gave three very accomplished displays.
In attack most of Sedgefield goals came from GB youth squad player Ryan Caws powerful shooting and Patrick Callan 14 a junior swimming international who scored some tremendous goals.
Adam Longley had a outstanding game all over the pool. Sedgefield fielded five young girls in their team as in Polo, teams can be mixed in certain junior competitions. Kasha Rogers Smith, Faye Callan and Olivia Gabrielle all 14 gave very tenacious and gritty performances.
Ashley Boardman, 14, Richard Oakenful, 14, Lewis Durham, 15, and Samantha Potts, 13, all showed potential for the future.
